Flaky Apple Pie Bars

Grab your box of puff pastry for these easy and delicious apple pie bars. You can use any kind of nut you want, like almonds or pecans. These bars are a great choice for a fall dessert and would be ideal for a Thanksgiving meal.

Ingredients

  1. 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  2. 3 medium apples, peeled if desired and sliced (about 3 cups)
  3. 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour plus ¼ cup, divided
  4. 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  5. ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
  6. ½ cup rolled oats
  7. ¼ cup nuts, such as sliced almonds or chopped pecans
  8. ½ cup light brown sugar
  9. ¼ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Unfold 1 sheet puff pastry and place on a large rimmed baking sheet. With a sharp knife, gently score the pastry about ¼ inch from the edge to create a border.
  3. Combine apples, 1 tablespoon flour, 3 tablespoons granulated sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon in a medium bowl; stir well to coat the apples. Spread the apples evenly over the pastry inside the border.
  4. Combine ½ cup each oats and brown sugar, ¼ cup nuts and the remaining ¼ cup flour and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon in the medium bowl. Cut in ¼ cup butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples. Bake until the pastry is browned and the apples are soft, 25 to 30 minutes.
