Old Fashioned Beef Stew

A time-honored classic with tender beef, potatoes, and carrots simmered until fork-tender. Nostalgic and deeply comforting, just like Grandma made.

Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds cubed beef stew meat 4 cups boiling water
  2. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  3. 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce 1 clove garlic, crushed
  4. 1 onion, diced
  5. 1 bay leaf
  6. 1 tablespoon salt
  7. 1 teaspoon sugar
  8. 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  9. 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  10. 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice 6 potatoes, cubed
  11. 2 carrots, sliced
  12. 1/2 cup whole kernel corn

Directions

  1. In a slow cooker, combine the stew meat, boiling water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Stir in the onion, bay leaf, salt, sugar, ground pepper, paprika and allspice. Add the potatoes, carrots and corn.
  2. Cook on HIGH for 2 hours.
  3. Switch the slow cooker to LOW and cook for another 3 1/2 hours. Remove bay leaves before serving.
